Austrian Economic Mission to the Kurdistan Region

Austrian Economic Mission to the Kurdistan Region

The Austrian Chamber of Commerce has organised an economic mission to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq from 21 to 23 September 2021. The mission is an initial step in the process of creating and deepening trade relations between Austrian and Kurdistani companies, giving business people a chance to find potential trade partners and gather interest in different projects. The focus of the delegation was on some specific economic sectors, such as agriculture, construction, and digital transformation.

The mission started with a business forum in Erbil, where all interested parties from Austria and the Kurdistan Region were present. The Austrian Ambassador to Iraq and Jordan, Dr. Oskar Wüstinger, and the Deputy Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Mr. Daban Shadala, held the opening remarks of the forum. Furthermore, the event was attended by the Austrian Trade Delegate to Iraq Mr. Herwig Neuper, the organiser of the delegation, as well as Dr. Mohamad Shukri, Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment, Dr. Haval Abubaker, Governor of Slemani, Mrs. Rosa Ibrahim, Economic Consultant of the Austrian Embassy in Amman, and Dr.  Mustafa Ramazan, KRG Representative in Austria.

The forum was followed by B2B meetings as well as visit to important economic sites in Erbil and Dohuk. For example, the delegation visited a construction project and the biggest food distribution centre in Erbil.

The mission was a great success thanks to two conferences in Erbil and Dohuk with more than 170 top level participants, many fruitful B2B meetings as well as already signed contracts between some companies.
