On the first day of his official visit to the Czech Republic, Kurdistan Region President, Masoud Barzani, accompanied by a Kurdistan Regional Government delegation, was received on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Prague by the President of the Czech Republic Mr. Miloš Zeman.
The two leaders discussed the latest developments in Iraq and Kurdistan Region and the war against the Islamic State terrorist organization, ISIS. The Czech President stressed his country’s support to the Peshmerga forces in their fight against terrorism.
Following the meeting, President Barzani and his accompanying delegation were invited for a lunch banquet held in his honor by the Czech President.
Later in the day, President Barzani met the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka. The two sides discussed strengthening bilateral ties and the fight against ISIS.
The Czech Prime Minister stated that his country would continue to provide assistance to the Kurdistan Region and its Peshmerga force in the fight against terrorism. He also expressed his country’s readiness to expand cooperation with the Kurdistan Region to include other fields.
The two sides also discussed the political and security developments in Iraq and the future of the Kurdistan Region.
President Barzani and his accompanying delegation held meetings also with a number of senior Czech government officials.
